Intro for me~

Day to day with Kay and Cosmetology

By: Cosmo Kay

Hi Everyone!

This is my first time starting a blog, and I decided to do something a bit different—share my day-to-day life and talk more about what I’m learning in cosmetology school, both now and in the future! It’s basically my public diary!

Here’s a little about me: My name is Kay, and I’m currently a part-time cosmetology student while working almost full-time at a sandwich shop in my city. I live with my boyfriend and our two fur babies, Lip (a 1-year-old Pomeranian-Husky mix) and Gypsy (a nearly 3-year-old tuxedo cat).

In my state, you need 1,500 hours to graduate, and I’m currently at 710 hours—so I’m about halfway there! I have a big test at 900 hours and another at 1,400, so I’m studying like crazy for them right now. I’m on track to graduate in January 2026.

I decided to pursue cosmetology last July and started school in September. Before that, I had been doing my own hair and a few of my friends' hair for years, and I’ve always just loved it.

Originally, I went to college for a music degree with a minor in law. However, I left due to some challenging circumstances with my mental health and a now-ex. Although I really enjoyed that year, I’m so happy I made the decision to leave. Cosmetology feels like something I can definitely see myself doing long-term. It’s not only something I find fun, but it also opens me up to meet and talk to people more often, which I really enjoy.

So far, it's been a challenge to juggle school and work at the same time. I’m usually exhausted and sometimes struggle with the motivation to go to class. But luckily, my boyfriend is one of my biggest supporters—he helps me with just about everything. He takes care of most of the housework and cooks dinner almost every night. He’s amazing, and I feel so blessed to have him in my life.

Looking ahead, I hope to either open my own salon one day or join a smaller, close-knit salon where I can really practice and sharpen my skills. I want to focus more on haircuts for all textures and on color—whether it’s vivid, bold shades or more natural tones. I love experimenting with color on myself, and I’m hopefully doing a split dye soon!

What are some fun colors you've done or have wanted to try on your own hair? I’d love to hear about them!

Thank you for reading my first blog and I hope to see you here in the future with my updates. Ill update as often as I can, Have an amazing day and
